Works have commenced on a $40 million transformation of Northpark Shopping Centre on Main North Road, set to be renamed Prospect Central.

South Australian owner The Duke Group has unveiled plans for a significant refurbishment of the popular shopping precinct with a focus on its western entry point, exteriors and interiors, as well as adding car park shade sails to enhance the existing 600+ parking spaces.

Exposed ceiling beams and new skylights will add more space and natural light, while new seating areas, modernised bathroom amenities, updated tenancies and native landscaping will complete the refresh.

Local retail architecture specialists Evo Arc have overseen the design, with national builder SHAPE Australia leading construction – expected to be completed by early 2026.

Duke Group Managing Director Con Angelopoulos said the redevelopment was a reflection of ongoing community consultation.

“Our offering at this location has always been focused on convenience, but we’ve had feedback from our local community for some time now that they’d like to see it modernised,” Con said.

“As a local, family-owned business who has owned this centre since 1998, we’re excited to take it into the future as Prospect Central in line with the shifting expectations of our customers.

“That means updating amenities, branding and refreshing the design – ultimately creating a vibrant local meeting place and retail hub for Prospect locals and the surrounding area.”

Prospect Central is home to over 40 stores including Woolworths, Coles, retail and food outlets and a range of services.

As part of the redevelopment, flagship tenant Woolworths has also commenced out of hours work on a multimillion-dollar refurbishment of their site – further cementing the centre as a leading retail destination.

“We’re keen to maximise existing tenancies and secure new ones, creating more ways for customers to experience the centre – such as expanding on our hospitality offering,” Con said.

“We look forward to keeping the community updated as our plans for Prospect Central continue to take shape.”
